The West of England Rural Network (WERN) is a respected, independent charity dedicated to improving the quality of life in rural communities. Operating in Bath & North-East Somerset, North Somerset, and South Gloucestershire, WERN fosters collaboration among voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) organisations, ensuring rural voices are heard and community needs are met.

The Charity assists formal and informal groups that provide support to vulnerable, disadvantaged and isolated individuals in rural areas. They also advocate for improved community services, influencing local decisions and policies, and contributing to a sustainable future.

The organisation is seeking a Chief Executive to lead them through the next stages of development and build on their recent success.

As CEO, you’ll provide effective leadership and direction to both WERN and the wider VCSE sector in the West of England. You will develop and maintain strong relationships and cross-sector partnerships that champion rural communities’ needs. Your responsibilities will include ensuring the Charity remains financially viable, implementing risk management procedures, and motivating staff to achieve a shared vision. Above all, you will deliver strategies that enable WERN to achieve its long, medium and short-term objectives.

WERN hopes to hear from strategic leaders with emotional intelligence and a track record of developing financially sustainable organisations. The successful candidate will have senior leadership experience within the VCSE sector and a background influencing policy and decision-making. They will be adept at building relationships with a variety of stakeholders and managing growth and change within an organisation. Furthermore, the CEO will have an understanding of public sector commissioning and procurement processes and the implications for the VCSE sector.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a collaborative leader to make a difference in the West of England’s rural communities.
